Termites are ant like, wood-boring pests that can potentially cause significant damage to structures and crops. They feed on dead plant and animal materials including wood. In an infestation, ‘frass’ would not be left behind like in the case of carpenter ants, because the termite consumes it. They can be white or black, depending on their stage of life and are very similar in appearance to ants. While ants clearly have three notable segments with a pinched waste, termites don’t have that pinch and appear ‘chubbier’.
