History of the Preserve:
Originally the homestead of David Deering, one of the earliest known settlers in Indiana, the land was acquired by Charles and Hazel Ritchey, who immediately realized the beauty and importance of this stretch of land. They did their best to ensure that the land was preserved and protected as much as possible, while opening it to the public for everyone to enjoy. In 2007, the city of Fishers bought the property and began working with local organizations to transform it into the Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve we know today!
