Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Across all four seasons, there's one thing you can guarantee you'll always deal with: household pests. The type and frequency of your pests may change, but there will be something, somewhere. It's the unfortunate reality we all live in.
Fortunately, you don't need to deal with any of it on your own. The service professionals at Greenix Pest Control want to take the reins and help you understand what you might expect of your pests with every season, as well as offer an all season pest control solution to counter any problems that might arise, no matter the time of year.
Spring
As the weather warms up, so do the pests. The ground unfreezes and the snow fades away, giving them a chance to come out of hiding and begin the process of renewing their populations after the great cold. Here are some of the most common pests problems people face in springtime:
Mosquitos
A universally despised nuisance, these pesky insects become highly active and can spread diseases with frightening ease. To avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors, and if possible, use an insect repellent that contains DEET.
Ants
Many types of ants will become more active in the spring, including carpenter ants that fly around your home looking for shelter and water. These pests target water-damaged wood throughout your property so if areas of your home have gone unchecked throughout the winter, you'll want to pay special attention in the spring.
Wasps
More than just a nuisance pest, wasps can quickly pose a threat to you and your family with their aggressive attitudes and willingness to sting you if they believe you pose a threat. During the spring, queens will emerge from hibernation to begin building new nests.
Spring is a time you may find yourself dealing with pests for the first time in a few months. It won't be too bad at first since pests are just beginning to emerge from hibernation. However, if you're noticing an abundance of pests in your home, we recommend jumping on the problem sooner rather than later. If you don't, you'll find that once summer comes around and all of the pests are out in force, your problem may become much bigger.
Summer
Summer. The worst season for pests, but also the best season for pest control. In addition to the mosquitoes, wasps, and ants that started to emerge during the Spring, you'll find yourself wrestling with many other, new annoyances.
Ticks
Ticks can cause Lyme disease, which can be debilitating if left untreated. To avoid ticks, wear long sleeves and pants when hiking or spending time in wooded areas, and do a full-body check for ticks after spending time outside.
Spiders
A pretty common nuisance in the summer, though the exact type of spider you deal with can vary widely depending on where you live. Some are more difficult and invasive than others, so you may need to inquire with summer seasonal pest control to figure out the best approach to dealing with yours.
Going a little bigger, you may also find yourself fending off larger pests, like cockroaches, rats, raccoons, and more. That is, assuming they weren't harassing you all winter.
Fall
As fall sets in, homeowners start to see an uptick in pests around their property. Some of the most common pest problems encountered during fall include mice and rats looking for warmth, ants and roaches seeking food, and termites taking advantage of moist conditions. Around this time of the year, your house looks like a big, inviting beacon to anything that won't be able to survive outside.
Here's a seasonal pest control tip: to prevent these rodents from taking up residence in your home, seal any cracks or openings on the exterior of your home and keep your garage and storage areas clean and free of clutter (if you have those things).
Ants and roaches also become more active as they seek out food sources before winter sets in. To discourage these pests from coming inside, keep food stored properly in air-tight containers and sweep up crumbs regularly. This means checking under everything. You might not want to look under your oven, but chances are that's your resident cockroach's favorite spot. Don't give them the freedom to do what they want.
Winter
The same problems presented in fall are even more pronounced as whatever remaining pests that haven't died, desperately look for ways to get into warm homes. As such, most of our previous advice holds true for winter, as well.
Mice and rats are looking for food and shelter when the temperature drops. They can squeeze through tiny openings to get into your home, and once they're inside, they're hard to get rid of, so seal off all cracks as soon as possible. Mice and rats can carry diseases that may threaten the health of you and your family, so try to eliminate the problem before it even exists.
If you live in an area that experiences cold weather during the winter, it's likely that any pest you encounter will be inside your home. During this time of year, they'll head indoors in search of warmth and shelter, leaving you as a host of uninvited guests.
